The Launceston Community FM Group was established in 1978, and was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1982. The Group was thriving in their application, and was granted a license in 1985. City Park Radio is a microcosm of the community with people of all ages, cultures and walks of life being involved. City Park Radio broadcasts a different range of locally and nationally produced programs, both music and spoken word, in hifi stereo. Spoken word topics include the environment, women’s issues, book reviews, job and training issues, and a range of others. We also offer Community Diary, a community announcements service. Through its multicultural programming the station broadcasts in over ten languages. In providing this service, City Park Radio aims to enhance the quality of life within the community. City Park Radio strives to yield high quality, entertaining, apropos and informative programming. The positions volunteer take on vary, from the known Be. radio announcers and producers, to after the scenes roles including management, administration, technical services etc. City Park Radio is a democratic organization, encouraging all individuals and groups of the community the opportunity to become broadcasters.

City Park Radio thanks all their volunteers for the effort they make to retain community radio active in Northern Tasmania. Three years ago, City Park Radio paid for an autonomous review of programming on the station. A suggestion made in the review was to consider daytime programming, and so the station decided to drop specialized programs in those time slots and create Mornings w Afternoons w with a general music format (easy listening, variety, all genres of music). One of the issues raised, presenters were finding it solid to get any of these programs to present, especially fresh presenters. Several discussion took store and the PUBLIC voted to have these two programs transition to the originally calculated bright and breezy general music format and to originate up the schedule to more presenters.
